32. The Last Stretch

We’re in the midst of horse racing season. We’ve watched those incredible animals compete in the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes and the Preakness. All those “big” runs, and usually the last few lengths are the most exciting of each race.

If you’ve been working on YOUR Novel since I started these Monday posts you probably have about six months of work done. That could mean you’re getting very close to the last few chapters of your first draft – the last stretch.

For most writers, that last stretch sees a definite increase in the words-per-day number. For some reason as we writers near the finish line, we experience increased energy and excitement.  My advice? Don’t hold back. Take advantage of the joy. I really don’t think you’ll burn yourself out by working hard at this point. You have the adrenaline levels to make the difference.

So write! And enjoy the knowledge that you are actually going to finish that book, a life goal realized. Congratulations!! I’m so proud of you.

Assignment for the Week: Write on, run hard, reach the finish line!

Next week, we’ll start talking about the process of rewriting.

Blessings!

Sue
