May ’11 Free Books!
Many of us recently enjoyed a television “invitation” to a royal wedding, so I thought it might be appropriate for this month’s books to be set in Great Britian. The winner of our May 31 drawing will have the choice of:
THE FINAL CRUMPET by Ron and Janet Benrey. From the back cover, “When Nigel OWen and Flick Adams – the new director and curator of the The Royal Tunbridge Wells Tea Museum – discover the body of Britain’s most famous missing person in the museum’s tea garden, [they] are up to their teacups in ancient spies, modern femme fatales, and a mystery that threatens to turn deadly.” Our give-away edition is a new trade paperback.
OR:
THE SERPENT’S TALE by Ariana Franklin. From the cover flap: “In Medieval England. . . Rosamund Clifford, the mistress of King Henry II, has died an agonizing death by poison — and the King’s estranged queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, is the prime suspect. The King summons [renowned Medieval sleuth] Adelia Aguilar to uncover the truth. Adelia knows that there may be more than one killer at work, and she must unveil their true identitites before England is once again plunged into civil war…” Our give-away book is a new hardcover edition.
To qualify for our drawing on May 31, please post your answer to our question. The winner will have his or her choice of THE FINAL CRUMPET or THE SERPENT’S TALE.
QUESTION: You were invited to the royal wedding, and at the request of the Queen you chose the flavor of the wedding cake. You are now the toast of the culinary world, because your choice was
1. Traditional white
2. Rich chocolate
3. An exotic flavor like apple rum, pineapple coconut, English toffee… hmmmm… or

Rich Chocolate! I love chocolate.
I’m a “nut” for carrot cake, too!
What a beautiful thought, Chris!
I think I would have chosen an angel food cake in memory of his mother since she is an angel now and it is a light and fluffy cake.
Sue, I think Carrot Cake is the best and healthy too. Carrots, pineapple, raisins, nuts and cream cheese..Got most of the food groups covered..
LOL
Yum! Ice cream cake! Why not? Although the raspberry chiffon sounds wonderful – and pretty, too.
Does ice cream cake count? I’m not a big cake fan so for birthdays I always requested ice cream cake (especially the ones from DQ that have all the layers). However I recently had a raspberry chiffon cake that was wrapped in a white chocolate that was quite heavenly.
I doubt she dumps her bananas… at least the first couple of helpings.
Wow, Sherry, sounds delicious! I will dump the bananas on the top. Or suggest that the Queen do so. (Do you think she dumps her own bananas?)
My favorite decadent indulgence:
Death By Chocolate with Rum-Sauced sliced bananas on the side. Oh, go ahead and dump the bananas on top of your really delicious slice of cake!
Enjoy!
Yup, I totally believe that one piece of carrot cake is equal to several servings of veggies!!
I like the carrot cake with lovely philly cheese and it’s sure healthy besides being yummie!
It’s hard to beat apple, Jackie!
my choice would be apple.. simple apple.. I just love apple pie, made in the dutch way. scrumptous and sweet.
That is the best thing about carrot cake. It’s a veggie! And if it has pineapple in it, carrot cake also counts as a fruit. Do you think the cream cheese frosting counts as a milk?
Well, I like just about all listed above, but could imagine a good carrot cake with cream cheese frosting….and healthy too with all those veggies baked right in!
A great loss indeed, Nan.
Your wedding cake sounds wonderful!
Walnut Chiffon Spice Cake with Cinnamon Whipped Cream Filling/Frosting.
BTW, Serpent’s Tale is really good, as is the rest of the series. This author’s recent passing is a great loss.
