THANK
Wild Word Friday!
I’m a Christian and so in addition to expressing THANKs to the special people in my life (which definitely includes all of you reading this!) I spend time each day THANKing God. I have been blessed in so many ways and all of you are an important part of those blessings.
Next week THANKsgiving Day is celebrated in the U.S., so let’s examine some of the history of the word THANK. In Middle English THANK – the verb – was thankien. Taking it back another step, we find the Anglo Saxon version – thancian. Way, way back to Indo-European, the mother language of most European languages, we have the base word tong, which actually means to think.
I love that! Gratitude begins with thought, and of course a “first cousin” of the words thought and THANK is thoughtful. I’m going to make a THANKsgiving resolution this year, to put more thought into being THANKful!
What’s your THANKsgiving resolution for 2011?
Blessings and THANK you so much for reading my blog!
