Your Pet/Summer & Lassie

Summer and Lassie, waiting for a pretzel snack
Ellen, owner of Summer, a boxer, and Lassie, a terrier mix,  tells us that her dogs are a real blessing from God.  Ellen adopted Lassie from a shelter/puppy mill situation and says that Lassie has worked through some really sticky issues and is becoming quite a nice house companion for her and for Summer.  Two years ago Summer required surgery, and a boxer rescue group helped Ellen pay the expenses.

Ellen struggles with fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and other physical problems, but Summer and Lassie are her constant companions and, along with her faith, help her find joy through the pain.  Her love for her dogs is abundantly returned.

So today we welcome two very special dogs, Summer and Lassie, to our Your Pet family!
Q4U: Do you or have you ever worked with an animal rescue group? Have you ever adopted a rescued animal?

Blessings!
Sue

  1. What a gift you have both given to your special dog, Debbie! My mom always had Boston terriers as a child and to this day still loves that breed.

  2. We rescued our 4 year old, 7# Yorkie, Max, when he was a year old. He had been severely neglected (no shots, grooming, or socialization). We also believe he witnessed abusive behavior during that first year as he is very protective of me and will become quite aggressive even when my husband tries to kiss me! He loves to snuggle and wrap up in blankets and is so different from all the “big” dogs we have had in the past.

  3. We have a very special “rescue dog”. We went to the center looking for a quiet little “lap dog” to keep me company since I am at home alone most of the time. We were offered 2 other little dogs but my husband went out to the center to look at their animals. That is when our little “Dixie” stole our hearts! Hubby had a little Boston Terrier when he was a little boy but that dog was stollen from their house and Dixie looks just like Doodle did. Dixie is NOT a quiet little lap dog – anything but – but she is a huge part of our lives. She is very protective of us and knows she is loved and protected here too. Since she arrived at our house we have found that she is very allergic to something (we have not discovered the source yet) and also has Addison’s Disease so when I take my medication – she takes her medication. She is a lot of company and we love and take care of each other.
