Puppy Love/ Great Pyrenees!
In Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where I live, farmers have a tough life. The growing season in a good year is a mere three months, often less, with frosts lasting into June and sometimes starting up again in mid-August, but we do grow very high quality hay, and also have dairy farms and some sheep farms. In the past decade, the wolf population rose dramatically, and the sheep farmers were losing many lambs. One of our friends was losing 50 lambs in a season, until he “adopted” that first Great Pyrenees.

The huge white dogs are perfect guardians, and in the first year with an adult Pyrenees to guard his herd, our friend’s loss of lambs dropped to near zero – a humane solution for all involved.
The Great Pyrenees as a breed originated with the Basque people in the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain. The dogs were bred to guard the sheep herds. One of the first descriptions of the breed is dated 1407. The Great Pyrenees are nocturnal, a perfect trait for guarding against predators. They are also very good with small children.
I hope you enjoy the puppy pictures below!
Have you ever owned or seen a Great Pyrenees?
Blessings!
