March 2014 #1 Give-Away Book!

A couple of years ago, I “met” a writer named Janie Chang through the Internet, and our mutual interest in books and reading sparked a friendship. Janie’s blog features stories about her Chinese ancestors, (http://www.janiechang.com/the_family_stories) and I knew after I read the first story that I couldn’t wait until she published her first novel, THREE SOULS, which draws on her family history for portions of its plot and settings.

Just last week THREE SOULS was published in the USA. (It was published in Canada last year.) And since I had pre-ordered my copies, one popped up on my Kindle and another showed up on my doorstep. I started reading and could not stop. One night I even stayed up until 2 am with my Kindle glowing. Now I have the joy to feature Janie novel as our first free March 2014 book. (Even if you don’t win our new trade paperback edition, I hope you’ll buy a copy for yourself. It’s an incredible read!)

Set in 1935 China, THREE SOULS is the story of a young woman named Leiyin. From the back cover, “When Leiyin defies her father to pursue Hanchin [a left-wing poet and translator], she learns the harsh truth — that she is powerless over her fate. Her punishment for disobedience leads to exile [and] an unwanted marriage… Suffused with history and literature, THREE SOULS is an epic tale of revenge and betrayal, forbidden love, and the price we are willing to pay for freedom.”

THREE SOULS was written for the general market.

To have your name entered in our Wednesday, March 12 drawing, please leave a comment: Do you know your ethnic heritage or nationality? A yes or no answer will get you into the drawing, but feel free to share your family’s nationality/ethnicity if you’d like!

Blessings!

Sue

  1. I’m a good mix with a very romantic story in my family’s past. About an indentured servant from Ireland and a indentured servant girl from the Cree nation. I have been told that we have African roots. But that is not been proven.

  2. Paternal grandfather: Welsh and Scottish. Paternal grandmother: French and English. Maternal grandfather: Hungarian. Maternal grandmother: Polish. Me: Texan, lol!

  3. Carol, a proud heritage for sure! Isn’t it fun to do that research, although sometimes aggravating, too, I bet!!

  4. As a quasi-genealogist, I can certifiably claim direct lineage to the first fur traders in the Great Lakes. I am: French Canadian, Native American and French on my paternal line, and 100% Italian on my maternal side.

  5. Yes, from my paternal line I’m Irish, but each of my four grandparents came from different countries, so I’m an eclectic mix — Irish, Scottish, English and Italian! I’ve been working on our family genealogy as well as doing a history album for our church, so lately have been immersed in heritage facts and photos.

I’ve heard good things about THREE SOULS, but haven’t read it yet. I’m glad to get your enthusiastic recommendation.
