Eastern European Research Trip – Homeward Bound
The Athenee Palace Hilton of Bucharest. Wow! Motel 6 is usually more our style, but I could get used to Hilton.
And, of course, fresh flowers!
A large room and comfy bed:
And a view of Bucharest!
It seems like a touch of home to find a Gideon Bible in the bedside table.
We have time for dinner at the hotel with friends, and then we bid our farewells, hoping we’ll be able to share another adventure someday.
Morning starts very early, but the good news is that, when we board the airplane, I learn Neil has upgraded us from Economy to Economy Comfort. It’s amazing what a few extra inches of leg room does for a person’s psyche!
We fly from Bucharest to Amsterdam and then to Detroit in our home state of Michigan. We have a few hours of layover before our flight north to the Upper Peninsula.
Yes, that’s Neil’s foot. Notice the shoes are off. Also notice that we have a little friend to keep us company. It seems that the bird is living in the airport. He — or she — is very tame.
We call our fathers to tell them we’ll be home by 10 p.m. Neil’s dad is 95 years old, and my dad is 88, both active and healthy, but we’ve had many people watching over them for us during our days away from home.
We have so many reasons for gratitude: a wonderful family, new friends and old, a great adventure, and a few hours later…
Our Own Bed!!!
Thank you for traveling with us. We’ve loved sharing our journey with you!
Blessings!
Sue
It think it was!! Ours is a queen size and I think the hotel bed was a king. I’m short so I could’ve slept horizontally!!! LOL
I ment wide not width … 🙂
Hi Sue…. the first line on the bible photo is Dutch ! “Het Nieuwe Testament” … “The New testament”…. funny to see that !
Bucharest sounds fantastic
The bed in the hotel looks twice the width of your own bed 🙂
It was a wonderful trip, Carol. Neil and I have had the privilege of traveling quite a few places, but in the past 12/13 years, we have been pretty much limited to home or drive-to trips due to his parents’ care needs, but this year we’ve taken a couple of very fun adventures. I don’t quilt, but I love quilts. In the “our own bed” photo, there are 3 quilts. The one on the bed was made for me by one of my very best friends, Carol MacDonald Lamb. We first met when we were 4 years old and have been friends ever since. The appliqued quilt folded at the foot of the bed was made for us by another wonderful friend, and also a cousin, Debbie Harrison. On the nightstand the small pieced quilt there was made by my paternal grandmother Kate McHaney. She made if for my doll when I was about 7. Some of the tiny squares are made of fabric from her dresses and my grandfather’s old shirts!
It certainly sounded like a wonderful journey! I love that view of Bucharest! We haven’t travelled far or very often. Except for a few Alaskan cruises, our travels have always been in our RV (which we’re about to sell). It’s always nice to see new places and people, but returning home is always welcome, too. BTW, your quilt is lovely. Did you make it?
