SMALL JOYS–Seeing Past Ugly
My husband and I were walking in a nearby city when I happened to look down and see this beautiful leaf with an ugly cigarette butt on top of it. My first reaction was to feel sadness that something beautiful had been defaced. I snapped a picture, and on occasion I look at that photo again. Finally I realized that I had the option to look past the cigarette butt and see the leaf–its perfect form, color, and veins
Too many times in life, I let the ugly destroy the beautiful for me. I’m going to do my best to grow beyond that tendency. I’m not saying we should ignore the ugly. Sometimes that’s very necessary to improve the world around us. I’m just saying that we also need to focus on the beautiful.
Another small joy,
Sue
