Small Joys–Earrings!

These earrings have just found a sweet nook in my jewelry box. They’re replicas of the glass floats used years and years ago for fishing nets by Asian and sometimes American fishermen.

Nestled against a boomerang given to me by an Australian friend (Thank you, Trish!), and a replica of a scrimshawed walrus tusk, are two glass floats that friends of ours from the Pribilof Islands gave us when we were visiting. (Thank you Bonnie and Chris!) These floats very occasionally will wash up on beaches in the North Pacific and the Bering Seas. They are very old, and becoming very rare, and we love having these treasures as a part of our lives. Now their daughter Samantha makes earrings like those you see in the first photo to celebrate of this part of her Unangan (Aleut) heritage. I knew I had to order a pair as soon as I saw them online.

If you’d like a pair for yourself, message me. I’ll give you her link. They come in many colors.

Thank you, Sam, for this wonderful “small” joy in my life!

Sue
