Small Joys–Saving Summer!

In the summer, I love cutting fresh chives from my garden for salads or whatever of pot of food is bubbling away on my stove. I recently read how to preserve chives for winter use, and last week I cut those remaining in my garden and tried out that idea. It works!!

You snip your chives, put them in an ice cube tray with water and freeze them. When they’re frozen, you remove them from the tray and store them in a zip lock bag in your freezer. A cube is the perfect amount for most recipes, and they taste just like fresh when you use them!

The smell of a summer garden in the winter time–what a joy!

  1. I warm coconut oil to freeze them in…and use clean egg trays. That way they’re ready for frying.
