MAY 2024 FREE BOOKS!

We have two amazing non-fiction books to give away this month. These books are essential and informative reading for educators and for those invested in their own education or that of their children and/or grandchildren.

EMPOWERING LEARNERS, Teaching Different Genres and Texts to Diverse Student Bodies was written by two highly esteemed educators, Anna J. Small Roseboro and Dr. Susan B. Steffel, both with extensive experience in the classroom and as educators at the university level. Roseboro has served as the president of the California Association of Teachers of English, and Steffel as the president of the Michigan Conference on English Education. From the back cover of the book, “Readers will gain insight to engage, empower, and elevate themselves as educators as they meet the varied needs of their students.”

MICHIGAN INDIAN BOARDING SCHOOL SURVIVORS SPEAK OUT, a Narrative History by Sharon Marie Brunner, is predicated upon a series of in-person interviews transcribed in 2001. From the back cover: “Whether or not you have any Native American heritage, this book is crucial to understanding the lived experience of our fellow human beings and how we can do better . . . [to] address the unique challenges and strengths of Native American people.” Brunner is an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Our give-away copies are new trade format paperbacks, and one lucky reader will receive both copies.

To have your name included in our Wednesday, May 15 drawing just answer this question. If you could take a class (at any level of education) that would offer new-to-you information or teach you a new skill, what would you choose to take? (For me, drawing or violin.)

Happy Reading!

Sue

  1. My grandmother was a boarding school survivor here in NY. I would be very interested in reading these books. Currently I create ribbon skirts and shirts. I would love to learn how to make jingle dresses next. I love reading and learning about native history and genealogy.
