AUF WIEDERSEHEN
WILD WORD FRIDAYS!
Today we’re going to venture from English into German (Deutsch) for our Wild Word, or in this case, our wild phrase, AUF WIEDERSEHEN, which means good-bye.
When you bid farewell to your German, Swiss or Austrian friends by saying AUF WIEDERSEHEN (pronounced owf vee-derr-zay’n), you are actually telling them (in a direct translation to English) to again see. It’s a very nice sentiment and actually seems closer in meaning to the English farewell rather than good-bye.
So, my friends, AUF WIEDERSEHEN until my next post!
Q4U: What’s your favorite way to say hello or good-bye?
Blessings! Sue
@ Jackie – I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of family members doing very different things with their lives – the interaction with them and our conversations are a goldmine of information for my blog.
Sometimes I just don’t understand from where are you taking all the information and ideas.
