Kindle
A few months ago a friend of mine showed me her new Kindle and explained how it works. As ebooks go, the Kindle is reasonably priced, very readable, and even downloads many classics for free. It’s lightweight and small enough to carry in your purse or a roomy pocket.
Let me tell you that I will forever love printed books. I love the feel of them. I love them lined on shelves. I love walking into a library and hiding in the stacks. But my friend sold me on Kindles.
And as of last week, I love my Kindle.
Here’s why. It’s a book. It’s not just one book. It’s many books. Lying in my hand, tucked in my purse, waiting to be read. Ahhh…
Q4U: What do you think about ebooks? Do they scare you or are you in love? Yea or nay?
I’m with you, Linda, I prefer my Kindle because it’s so much easier on my eyes, which are mildly compromised by macular degeneration.
Unfortunately, the ebook decision is not mine. I don’t own the ebook rights to my novels, because when my novels were first published in the USA, ebooks did not exist and contracts were nebulous about future electronic rights. Those rights are still under dispute by many publishers, including mine. A number of groups that represent authors and publishers are negotiating these rights and I hope for a resolution soon! Meanwhile, anyone who does wish to see any novel published in ebook form can go to that novel on Amazon and click on the button that allows you to “wish” for an ebook form. Maybe enough voices will make a difference!
Thank you for asking!!
Are you planning on making your books available for ebooks? I loved your stories and reread them many times years ago. My eyes have changed and I can read ebooks much easier than paper. I love to be able to buy them for my Kindle.
Best Wishes,
Linda
Cissy, I’ll be answering your question about my books in ebook format on my next post. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you, Lynn, for being the one who introduced me to the Kindle! You definitely sold me on it!!
Love my Kindle 🙂 However, I too love the feel and look of a book. I didn’t think I would want an e-reader, but when my husband gave me one for my birthday, I fell in love with it. When your eyes are tired at night, you can also just make the font larger!!
I have a leather cover, too. I think that makes a big difference. The cover I bought has a light, which helps me read more easily. I have macular degeneration, nothing too serious at this point, but in the evenings when I’m tired, my brain doesn’t differentiate as well between words and the “gray areas” that fog my vision.
I didn’t think I’d ever switch to an ebook for the same reasons- flipping pages, the smell and just the whole feel of the book. I got the nook more than a year ago and now I’m hooked. I didn’t like the feel of the nook at first, but I bought a leather cover for it. Now it feels more like a book.
Sue, are you going to put your books in the ebook format? Please??
Okay, Laura, you’re on! I’ll ask in 10 years!! (I love to turn pages, too, and I like the smell of books. I know that sounds stupid, but it’s part of the mystic.
I’m not sure that I could ever make the switch to ebooks. That said, we should never say never. For me, a book is more than just words. It’s the feel of it, the flipping of pages.
Ask me again ten years from now.
