March ’11 Free Books!
This month’s free books include two page turners. One by Karen Kingsbury and the other by Kathleen Grissom.
The Karen Kingsbury book, EVERY NOW AND THEN, is the story of Alex Brady whose father (a fireman) died in the twin towers attack. After his father’s death, Alex turned away from God and his family. Now 25 years old and living in California, Alex has dedicated his life to apprehending criminals with the help of his K-9 partner, Bo. As people from his past reenter his life, will Alex find love or will his bitterness destroy his chance at redemption?
Our give-away book, EVERY NOW AND THEN, is a hardcover book club edition.
Kathleen Grissom’s novel THE KITCHEN HOUSE is set in the antebellum South in the early 1800s. From the cover flap: “Orphaned while on board a ship from Ireland, seven-year-old Lavinia arrives on the steps of a tobacco plantation where she is to live and work with the slaves of the kitchen house. Lavinia becomes deeply bonded to her adoptive black family, but is eventually accepted into the world of the big house. When she is forced to make a choice, loyalties are brought into question, dangerous truths laid bare, and lives put at risk.”
THE KITCHEN HOUSE is a new large-print hardcover edition.
To qualify for the drawing on March 31, post a reply to the following question. The winner will have his or her choice of our two March 2011 novels!

God bless you
I have to go with #1. It would be absolutely great to visit the Emerald
Isle. The other choices would also be amazing, but it’s #1 for me.
For sure #1!! ST. Pat’s Day in Ireland!! Have been to all 3 places, but a return to Ireland would be awesome!!
Any of the choices would be absolutely fabulous, but how could I possibly pass up going back in time anywhere? The fact that it’s Chicago just adds to the sparkle.
Oh my goodness, Jane. I always thought Kinsella was a Finnish name!
I think I would have to choose #1 although the trip to New York would be wonderful too. I too, have ancestors who came from Ireland – Kinsella used to be spelled Kinsellaugh. One of my cousins traveled there and came back with the Coat of Arms and the history. This would be a lovely trip that I couldn’t refuse.
Thank you, Cathy! I didn’t realize your family had Irish roots. It’s amazing your mother’s family has kept in touch. The move from the old world to the new, generations ago, must have been such a tramatic severing of most ties. I don’t know how people did it.
Sue Ireland is place i would love to visit.Just seeing the castle’s & quaint house”s plus the beautiful country side.
Sue,
I’ve “discovered” your blog after you became my friend on Facebook, and I’m having a wonderful time reading all of the posts. I’ve even started the “Your Novel” section.
I would choose the trip to Ireland. I have always wanted to go there to visit the country and if there were time, visit the places that my Rutledge and Wilson ancestors immigrated from.
My Grandmother Smith, who was a Wilson, still has living relatives in Belfast.
It would be a dream-come-true to be able to see the country that my family came from.
@Lynn Hauptmann – there is something really intriguing about Ireland. I know I’d love to go there. You have the same Irish roots as my husband Neil with your Great Grandma Harrison being an O’Neill.
I didn’t know about your Irish roots, Ruth!
I have to agree, Mary!
I know I would, Jackie!! Our daughter has visited Ireland a couple of times and she loves it.
I think you would love Ireland Sue, the nature is stunning and there are so many stories, legends, ruins.
Who knows.. you might visit one day.
St Patricks day is celebrated big here, huge parades in Dublin and most other towns and villages.
a very nice atmosphere.
I’ve been to New York and Chicago so I definately would pick #1. It would be such an interesting place to visit.
I would LOVE to go to Ireland! It’s the land of my ancestors.
I must admit I’d probably choose Ireland, too. Although I love musicals and I’d also love to go back in time. I wonder if I would feel more out of place in turn of the century Chicago than I would in Ireland. I think so! Things have changed so much in the past 100 years.
When I was looking up info on Ireland, Jackie, I was thinking that you definitely would go for Chicago or New York!
We just received an email with tips for forcing our students show up to class on St. Patrick’s day… Good thing I don’t teach on Thurs!
that is a nice one Sue!
I live in Ireland, I have seen every corner of Dublin.. visited Shannon, experienced Kerry, my husbands aunt has a huge summerhouse in one of the most beautiful spots in Kerry called: Ballyferriter. (Kerry is my favorite part of Ireland) and done the cliffs of Moher.
I think I would like New york, but I am not sure, maybe for one day, my neck would hurt after looking at all those sky scrapers (in Holland we call them: cloud scratchers).
So… I would love to go and see chicago especially because the clothes are fun and I would love to dance the charleston in those swirly skirts.
Oooooh………#1 or #2……..#1 or #2…….I just can’t decide!! Back in time sounds like so much fun, but I think in the end I would have to pick #1-a trip to Ireland with the castle and interesting & exciting tour!!
