The Muse in Song
Last year, I received an email from folksinger Ann Rowland http://www.annandwillrowland.com/ who asked if I’d be interested in joining her and David Roth http://www.davidrothmusic.com/ also a folksinger, as a presenter at the North of 45 Writers’ Retreat in May 2011. I said YES!
I am so glad I said YES.
My husband is so glad I said YES.
He and I were blessed to meet these two incredible and gifted artists as well as Dave’s wife, Tricia, a little woods sprite in disguise as a person, who taught Yoga sessions in the mornings and made us laugh all day long. Both Ann and David write their own lyrics and music, heart-touching, soul-enriching songs. Neil and I were both inspired beyond words by their words and their music and their willingness to share the joy of their creativity. We laughed and we cried and we learned so much about ourselves. Our writers at the retreat ranged in age from about 18 to – well – nicely seasoned. And we learned that laughter and sharing are the best ways to forge friendships and entice the muse into our lives.
Our retreat headquarters was Chamberlin’s Ole Forest Inn http://www.chamberlinsinn.com/, a beautiful old inn (located in Curtis, Michigan)steeped in history and blessed by owners Kelly and Bud Chamberlin, who made us all feel like family. And oh my goodness, the meals! Gourmet all the way. The Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis, Michigan, hosted two evening performance/readings. Perfect acoustics and calm beauty.
A weekend of heaven right here on earth.
