June ’11 Free Book!

My husband and I were driving near our home when we came across a field full of horses, all colors and many sizes. I’m not a great rider, but I love horses. Seeing all those beautiful animals made me smile.

Another thing that makes me smile is a great book, and we have two for you this month. The person who wins our June 2011 drawing will have his or her choice of:

THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD by Patrick O’Brian. This historical novel is a classic and the first book in the bestselling series, Master and Commander. Perhaps you remember the movie made a few years ago with this book as its inspiration. From the cover blurb, “Jack Aubrey, a brilliant and fearless captain in Nelson’s navy, accepts a mission that will test his abilities to the limit: he is to set sail immediately for Cape Horn to intercept a powerful frigate intent on wreaking havoc among British ships. Aubrey’s beloved ship, H.M.S. Surprise is up to the task, but the ranks of her crew have been thinned, and many of her sailors are untried.  As the Surprise and her crew draw closer to the enemy, their journey grows ever more dangerous: murder, shipwreck, and a desperate rescue attempt await them in the far reaches of the Pacific.

Our give-away copy is a new trade paperback.

THE COURAGE TREE by Diane Chamberlain. From the cover flap: “It was every mother’s worst fear…. Eight-year-old Sophie Donohue just wanted to be like every other little girl. Which is why her mother, Janine, reluctantly agreed to let her go on the weekend camping trip with her Brownie troop. But when Janine arrives to pick up Sophie after the trip, her daughter is not among the others. Somehow, along the forested route from West Virginia, Sophie has disappeared.

Our give-away copy is a new hardcover edition.

To qualify for the June 30, 2011, drawing, tell us what makes you smile!

Blessings!

Sue

I’d be interested in The Far Side of the World. Thanks.

  5. My cat Moe makes me smile. She’s 13 years old and definitely has her own personality. If I’m down in the dumps or if I’m not feeling well, she sticks close by me and gives me hugs. Meow…….

  6. I had a cat like that when I was a child. His name was Squeaky Tailer, and he was the ugliest cat ever but also the sweetest cat ever!
