Puppy Love / Basset Hound!

One of the favorite dogs in my life was a basset hound mix owned by my parents.

They got her at a pound and named her Ima Doggie. Ima was the sweetest dog – patient, loving, and goofy.

Ima liked to pick up things and carry them in her mouth. One day my mother took her for a walk and, just as they were coming up the driveway to their house, my sister Tish stopped in. Tish took one look at Ima and started to laugh. Evidently on this particular walk, unnoticed by my mother, Ima had picked up a cigarette butt and had it hanging partway out of her mouth. My sister’s comment was a classic: “You guys never let us smoke.”
