Puppy Love/ Saluki!

According to many experts, the Saluki is the oldest domesticated dog breed in the world. They were used as coursing hounds to hunt rabbits and small gazelles by the nobility of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Persia. They are fast, agile, and have excellent eyes. The Saluki isn’t lap dog material, not just because they weigh in at an average 50 pounds, but because they are independent and don’t like a lot of fuss and coddling.

An ancient Iranian petroglyph, dated at about 8-10,000 B.C.

The Saluki is a beautiful, graceful animal and a good pet for someone who would like a daily running companion.

Have you ever met a Saluki?

Blessings!

Sue

  1. I’ve never considered the Saluki unusual, maybe because they are regular participants in the dog shows I attend, but they are indeed an old and lovely breed… very graceful. The National Saluki Club held its Canadian national specialty in Ontario last month and will hold a western regional specialty show here in BC next month. These events are always a treat… an opportunity for breed lovers to get their “fix”. (Aren’t those puppies sweet?) 🙂
