A Glance Back – The Livin’ is Easy!

One of my favorite songs has to be that jazzy “ballad” from Porgy and Bess, “Summertime”  by George Gershwin. That was the perfect song for this past week at our house. Lots of sun, heat, but it was also a time of realizing that for us in the North Country this will probably be the last few days of “Easy Livin'” until some time around July 2014, when the sun will bless us again with that lazy heat that slows down time and lures us out to the deck with a book in one hand and a cold ice tea in the other.

This week was my mother’s 85th birthday and my birthday, too. One cake is always enough for the two of us, a tradition we’ve held since I was a child. I also had time to write five chapters in my current manuscript, a suspense novel about child trafficking. Last week I was thinking I had 3 more chapters to write. Now 5 chapters later I think I have only about 3 more chapters to write. *smile* Suffice it to say, I’m close to finishing the first draft, and that is due to the great help I’ve received from my Facebook friends who have helped me develop the characters and name them, set plot points, and  fill in details of the setting. What a great group to work with! I’ll soon be asking for help again as I rewrite.

So now we’re into Labor Day weekend, and two of my husband’s brothers and their wives are with us and our daughter, too! All of us, along with our fathers and my mom, make for a lively group.

How are you spending your weekend?

Blessings!

Sue

  2. Thank you, Jackie. A friend of ours found that tree in the woods and gave it to us. Very kind. He could have sold it for big bucks!
