A Glance Back – The Holidays
We were extra blessed this year to have our daughter and our son and his wife and children all home for Christmas. What fun! We also had the joy of sharing our holidays with my father and mother, and my husband’s father. When my daughter-in-law gave my mom a hug, my mother said, “Merry Christmas!” very clearly. Now that doesn’t seem like anything unusual, but in the past four months my mother has said very little, in fact only a three short sentences that I know of. So that very appropriate Merry Christmas was a gift that made all of us cry. Sometimes we are blessed beyond anything we expect or can hope for.
As I usually do, I made an outfit for each of my granddaughters’ American Girl dolls. Over the years, I’ve done nightgowns, formal gowns, and cheerleader outfits. This year was dedicated to wedding dresses. I was so happy when I sewed on the last pearl! (Two days before Christmas!) I am not a seamstress, and the commotion of making ONE outfit per doll each year does me in until the next Christmas!
I hope that your holidays were lovely and filled with memories to keep forever.
Blessings!
Sue
Thank you, Linda. I hope this year brings you beautiful memories, too!
The dresses she made a beautiful. I still have clothes that my mother made for my Barbie dolls. Glad you got to shared treasured time with your mom and that she was able to communicate with you, I know I treasure those moments with my mom. Hope this year brings you more memories.

Sue, they are absolutely beautiful. The girls will treasure them forever. You are do talented! I managed to make 13 tie blankets. The kids and Grandkids that received them, loved them.
I remember those Christmases, Stacey when I received a doll with a fancy dress. So much fun!! So many dreams.
Thank you, Arlene. I hope I put enough prayers into those stitches. There are a couple of boys out there somewhere that get into my prayers so often. Already looking way ahead to that time when each girl might have a husband.
I think the most important thing, Carol, is that our daughters or granddaughters understand that they are loved enough for Mom or Grandmom or Aunt to make something special for them.
What beautiful dresses! I used to make doll clothes for our daughters when they were young, but they were always pretty basic. These are heirloom-quality and I’m sure they will be treasured.
WOW! Lovely work. I love that you handmade them, sewing love and prayers for your girls into every stitch. What a treasure they have in you!
The dresses are beautiful! My girls love their dolls and fancy dresses!
I’m so glad that you suggested stopping at that one shop in Charlevoix, Patti. I used almost every bit of that bridal veil we found one way or another!!
I do, too, Ginny!
Thank you, Sharyll. We treasure our time together so much, and as Neil and Tonya’s girls get older we know that our Christmases together will not be so easy to schedule. They’ve told us if we someday move to Florida in the winter they’ll be likely to come every Christmas. LOL Gpa Cliff just doesn’t want to go south for the winter, so I guess we’ll enjoy the snow and beauty of the North!
It’s so much fun to live through our childhoods again via our grandchildren’s eyes, isn’t Linda!
Thank you, Angela!

Sue, how gorgeous. I know your granddaughters will treasure them. My granddaughters love American Girl dolls as well.
