A Glance Back – Flat Stanley!
About six weeks ago a house guest came to live with us via the auspices of a young man very close to our hearts (grandson close). Right away, we struck up a great friendship with FLAT STANLEY, and he’s been a part of our days ever since. We didn’t travel much, but Stanley found lots…
DIRT & BONES: A Most Precarious Art
Welcome to the launch of my monthly blog post about the research behind my books. Allow me to begin with an apologetic…. The twenty-first century is a precarious time to write novels set in any prehistoric era. The development of archaeogenetics and genetic anthropology has sent many cherished theories to the boneyard. (Pardon the pun,…
Your Pet/ FRANK and BROCK!
You may remember that we featured Frank and Brock last April. Frank is a rescue puppy who loves to dress up, and that works out great because his “mom” Amy loves to oblige him. Brock is a loving pit bull owned by Jeff. Their photographer, Christina, sent in photos that we just couldn’t resist. So…
IGUUGUM TUGIDAA
Wild Word Friday! I thought it might be fun on the first Friday of each month to highlight the Aleut name – and translation – for that month. The Aleut word for June is IGUUGUM TUGIDAA. The second G in that phrase should have a circumflex accent (ˆ) over it, but I couldn’t get my computer…
Your Pet! Casey!
Casey, the “Dat” Casey’s owner, Christina says, “This is our silver tabby, Casey. We call him our dat because he seems like a combination of a dog and a cat. He walks on a leash, as you can see by the photograph, and he actually goes to the front door and begs to be let…
Thank you so very much Sue. I’m glad I could lift your spirits for a brief moment.
Oh Jackie, what a beautiful and uplifting thing to share with me. Thank you so much. You are a very special friend, and I think we have a good link, heart to heart, that extends across oceans and languages. I’m so proud of all you do.
o wow! that is very cold.
I send you love today Sue, I know you are sad.
I want to tell you something.
When I first had contact with you I was always nervous to write back because of my grammar and spelling mistakes so I kept my questions/answers as short as I could or I would find a way to use different words but meaning the same thing. It was frustrating.
At one stage I thought: I really should feel more confident about it all since I now live in an English speaking country and don’t have plans to move back to Holland.
So I read more in English, books newspapers etc. , I started to write more and more on social media etc. and am not afraid anymore to make little mistakes.
Sue… you were the catalyst for me to feel more confident in my day to day English problems and I am grateful and thankful.
You have no idea what a freedom it has given me! so much so that I now work side by side with my husband, we have set up a Web and Graphic design studio ! I have to write, read and chat in English ALL the time. I would not be able to that a few years ago.
Blessings,
Jackie
