A Glance Back – Friends
A couple of weekends ago, my husband Neil and I had a wonderful weekend retreat with a group of friends. Most of us at one time or another had attended the same church and participated in a young marrieds Sunday School class. When our children were babies and toddlers, we scheduled this retreat every February, a break in the winter to relax, laugh, cross-country ski, and share our common faith.
Then our children reached junior high and high school, their activities kept us too busy for our annual mid-winter retreat, but we carried fond memories of our times together, and this year, for the first time in more than a decade, we met again . We watched videos of our younger selves being silly, playing games, doing skits, skiing. We discovered that we drink more coffee now and less soda. (We call it pop here in Michigan.) We’d rather sit and talk rather than ski, and that our conversations tended to be as much about our grandchildren as our children. Most importantly, we realized that friendships of the heart never fade.
Wishing you wonderful friendships and joyous memories!
