Haiti
I’m concerned that the current unrest in Haiti will discourage people from donating to earthquake relief funds. Yes, there are problems, but pulling back and doing nothing is not the solution. It’s easy to forget the God factor – that He is in charge. Our place is to trust and to help however we can. …
Your Pet! Mischa!
Mischa, a desktop cat! Mischa’s owner, Janie Chang, a novelist, tells us that, “Mischa (now age 7) and her brothers had been abandoned at a lakeside cottage. Fortunately a neighbor took in the kitties and put the word out. We went for a look and were instantly besotted. She’s confident, sociable, and cheerful, but well,…
Your Pet! Murphy
Brave Murphy! Murphy’s Mom, Lori, says, “Meet Murphy, my labradoodle. He can open any door but hasn’t yet learned how to close them. Murphy has been heard saying, “Hey, Mom.” (Really, I have witnesses!) And… he is a rattlesnake bite survivor. My children call him a mama’s boy. I guess that right.” Lori is an…
March 2014 #1 Give-Away Book!
A couple of years ago, I “met” a writer named Janie Chang through the Internet, and our mutual interest in books and reading sparked a friendship. Janie’s blog features stories about her Chinese ancestors, (http://www.janiechang.com/the_family_stories) and I knew after I read the first story that I couldn’t wait until she published her first novel, THREE…
A Glance Back – Knitting
When I was in 5th grade I took a 4H class and learned how to knit. I was not good at knitting, and, despite how much I loved my instructor, when I finished my pin cushion and my little hat, I was done. No more classes. I tried a few projects on my own, but…
I’m glad I had it right, Jackie. Meat and 2 veg. That’s a good way to say it!
O that dinner sounds VERY Irish Sue. That is exactly what my parents-in-law eat once a week. Also known here as: meat and 2 veg. 🙂
Probably American Irish isn’t very Irish at all as far as dinners go, Jackie! Corned beef and cabbage, onions, potatoes, carrots.
I love hearing about your visit to the zoo. What a great gift idea, and you are making such beautiful memories!! I love the idea of the memorial cross, too. I know the Pope is called of God, but I still think that has to be one of the most difficult ‘jobs’ (don’t know if that’s the right term) in the world!
I would love to know what’s on the menu for the Irish supper Sue.
We had great craic at the zoo, it was very busy , people dressed in green and generally very happy. The children loved it, last year we received a great gift from my mother-in-law : an annual pass to Dublin zoo, it is only 15 minutes away and we go there often, the zoo is located in Phoenix park a fantastic 700 acre park with beautiful nature, wild deer and stately homes, in the middle of the park is a gigantic cross known as the papal cross . The pope came to Ireland in 1973 or 1979 I forgot which date exactly and the people of Ireland came together and build the cross. Very impressive I must say.
I hope you had a great time, Jackie! In Pickford we have too much snow and cold for a parade, but lots of folks are wearing green, and Neil’s cousin is doing his annual “step dance,” which is what folks around here call Irish dancing. Our daughter will be home to visit this weekend and we are planning an Irish supper. All so much fun!
Happy st. Patrick’s day Sue and Neil! anything “green” going on in Pickford?
We are heading for the zoo, storytelling, leprechaun hunts, arts and crafts for the children, should be fun!
