On The Road – Falling Rock Cafe & Bookstore
Sunday, July 19 found us on the road again to promote the Michigan State University Press book HERE, Women Writing on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the Wayne State University Press book, THE WAY NORTH, Collected Upper Peninsula New Works, both books edited by Dr. Ronald Riekki.
This time Neil and I drove to Munising, Michigan, and the Falling Rock Cafe & Bookstore. (Check out their website. http://fallingrockcafe.com/)
Store owner and manager, Nancy Dwyer made us feel very welcome!
Soon writers Alison Swan, Barbara Henning, Lisa Faye Coutley, and I began to read from our works, past and present. We spent a joyful time talking about words and writing and our varied publishing experiences.
Here’s Lisa Faye Coutley reading poems that will be included in her soon-to-be-published book of poetry. Lisa can recite many of her poems from memory. Wow! Sometimes I can’t even remember my own phone number! The lady in the background is Patti, Barbara Henning’s sister.
Left to right, Alison Swan, Barbara Henning, and again, Barbara’s sister, Patti.
After the readings, I had a few minutes to peruse the Falling Rock’s glorious selection of books, used and new, pottery, art, hats, gloves, notecards, select coffees…. I could have spent hours!!
Some of my purchases!
The next time you yearn for a road trip, visit the beautiful town of Munising, Michigan, located on the shore of Lake Superior, that amazing freshwater sea. Be sure to stop in at the Falling Rock Cafe & Bookstore, 104 East Munising Avenue, and treat yourself to something wonderful from their delightful and unique menu. Don’t forget to buy a book, or two, or many!
Happy Reading!
Sue
It’s such a fun visit, and the food is great, too. Worth a trip the next time you’re in the U.P. Carrie!
