Your Life & Mine: Treats!
The first word our schnauzer learned as a puppy was TREAT! I don’t blame her. Treats are an important part of my life, too. Here are a couple of my favorites, good examples of the mixed background in my family — a bit Hillbilly, a bit East Coast. We usually had pig hocks in the refrigerator when I was growing up and also green and black olives, but Greek olives became a staple during the years our daughter Krystal lived in Greece.
Do you have any treats in your cupboards or refrigerator? If so, are they something you loved as a child, too, or something you discovered later in your life?
Leona, how wonderful that you help your husband by watching what you eat as well. We love pop corn, too. When the Harrison side of the family gets together. Gpa Harrison makes the pop corn and it’s always good. (He will be 99 in September!)
Ans, I understand about tall beautiful Dutch people. Our son’s wife is Dutch. She’s so wonderful. Her one brother is six feet 9 inches tall and the other is 6 feet 4 inches tall. At 5 feet 3 inches, I’m pretty short in that group. I have to ask. What is KROKETTEN?
Yummie I do actually love all kind of food. My mam had to feed 10 persons and as we grew up she made us soup every day because she couldn’t ad more patatoes and vegetables in the pan . I still like soup of any kind.
In the rare case of having left overs she made fantastic salades or real nice dutch ‘kroketten’ .
No wonder she ended up with eight very tall children!
Real dutch treats for me is ‘speculaas’ and black licorice.
My husband was diagnosed with diabetes, so I don’t eat sweets anymore and I barely eat any carbs. But when I do want a treat, I make popcorn on the stove. And now that summer is just around the corner, my other treat (which is a seasonal one) are fresh tomatoes from the garden!! 🙂
And dark chocolate is even GOOD FOR US! Yum!
My treats are dark chocolate the darker the better…and dark mounds mini bars…cocoanut and dark chocolate….nothing better.
