A Glance Back – Moving!
In about three weeks, we’re moving from our current home to a smaller place just across the road. Meanwhile, I’ve found a new reason for gratitude. The lowly cardboard box. God bless that person who invented these marvels of modern life. They can be broken down flat to take up little room when you don’t…
SARCASM
Wild Word Friday! In researching the word SARCASM, I discovered that it definitely deserves the title Wild Word. SARCASM isn’t usually a part of my repertoire, but a couple of years ago a person told me that they were going to do something which I knew would hurt the feelings of an elderly person dear…
June 2018 Free Books!!
This month our lucky winner will receive two books. They’re new trade paperback editions and the authors are both friends of mine. (That always makes it fun!) THE STEEPLECHASE by Carrie Fancett Pagels is a historical romance set in the early 1800s in Virginia. From the back cover: “Martha Osborne…is terribly concerned for her six-year-old…
Books I Love/THE READING PROMISE
For Christmas my daughter-in-law gave me a book entitled THE READING PROMISE. By the end of the first chapter, I knew I’d enjoy the read. By the end of the book, I knew THE READING PROMISE had risen into that rare category of “Books I Love.” THE READING PROMISE is a memoir written by Alice…

Sunday, July 19 found us on the road again to promote the Michigan State University Press book HERE, Women Writing on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the Wayne State University Press book, THE WAY NORTH, Collected Upper Peninsula New Works, both books edited by Dr. Ronald Riekki. This time Neil and I drove to Munising, Michigan,…

Yes indeed, Carol! Hooray for melting snow. When we move sometime in the next month or so, I’ll be leaving my rock gardens, which will tug a bit at my heartstrings, but I’m looking forward to container gardening. I think that will be fun!
Yay for melting snow!! Spring has made it to the west coast in full force — tree buds bursting, lots of blossoms happening. Yes we have gardens but we live rurally so they’re pretty ‘rustic’ most of the time… ferns and salal abound. There was one vegetable bed in the only sunny area but we finally gave up on it and planted more shrubs and perennials in it except for a corner with herbs. For summer I tuck a few annuals in a bed by the front sidewalk, but otherwise only put tubs of them on our back deck.
