June 2018 Free Books!!

This month our lucky winner will receive two books. They’re new trade paperback editions and the authors are both friends of mine. (That always makes it fun!)

THE STEEPLECHASE by Carrie Fancett Pagels is a historical romance set in the early 1800s in Virginia. From the back cover: “Martha Osborne…is terribly concerned for her six-year-old brother, Johnny, who has been sent off to boarding school. Her one desire is to earn enough money to retrieve her brother from school and put a deposit on the livery she hopes to run….Praying for God to send her an angel, it appears her prayers have been answered as the handsome Phillip Paulson enters her life. But can he be trusted…”

PILAR OF MINDANAO by Sarah Halvorsen is a young adult novel set in the Philippine Islands during World War II. Based on fact and careful research, PILAR OF MINDANAO was illustrated by Sarah’s husband Mark Halvorsen. From the back cover: “Meet Pilar, a captivating, feisty sixteen-year-old Filipina girl, who watches as war steadily creeps across her beloved island…Despite her harrowing experiences, Pilar boldly determines that she’ll work for the resistance.”

To have your name included in our Wednesday, June 13 drawing just answer this question. The heroine of each book is very brave and bold, but both deal with moments of extreme fear. Do you have a fear phobia?

  1. My fear phobia is a insect. Not just any insect, this one flies, has antennas and sticky feet and pinches your neck if given the chance.. Tree beetles are useless.. 🙂

  2. I fear being in any random public place and someone pulling out a gun and shooting everyone.

  3. Fear of the ocean is a new one for me, Sarah! But after seeing my husband get slammed on his head in the surf, I have a lot more respect for oceans. We’re both scuba divers and have had some slightly interesting circumstances! Pam, me too!! Marisa, when I was a child I used to dream of falling. Claustrophobia would be a very difficult phobia!

  4. I think more and more of us worldwide are developing this fear, Kim. My youngest brother travels often and to far places. He goes by a rule of 3. If 3 unusual or quirky things happen, he gets out of there. I think that’s a wise safety precaution.
