Sept. 2011 Free Book!

Beginning today and through May 2012, each month we’ll be giving away one of the 2011 Christy Award winning novels. The Christy Awards are given each year to honor the best in Christian fiction.

I’ll post the name of the free book on the first day of each month and draw the winner on the last day of the month from the names of those who reply to our Free Book! post.

Our free book for September 2011 is THE RELUCTANT PROPHET by Nancy Rue, published by David C. Cook. This novel won top honors in the Christy Awards for the best book in a Contemporary Series. From the back cover blurb, “One Sunday Allison Chamberlain senses a divine nudge to buy a Harley and ride it wherever it may take her. Soon she wonders if she is called to present the reality of Christ to one of society’s darkest corners…”

The cover illustration is  a woman on a Harley, and as I looked at it I remembered my first experience on a motorcycle. At the time my husband and I owned a motor sports store – boats and motors, cycles, snowmobiles, chainsaws. We also rented and sold canoes and during summers kept them outside on a tall display rack.

I have to admit that I’m not a motor sports kind of girl. I’ll choose a horse or a kayak any day above a motorized means of transportation (except a car!). My husband showed me how to start the motorcyle and how to shift gears, but he didn’t mention the brake, and I didn’t think to ask. I took off on the motorcycle and realized that eventually I had to stop. Ummm, brake? Couldn’t find it, so I set my feet down on the ground, like you do with a bicycle.

Lesson learned: feet don’t stop you on a motorcycle. A stack of canoes will. Did I mention that that was my LAST experience on a motorcycle, too?

So how about you? Are you are motorcycle person or more of a horse person? Maybe you prefer to walk?

Blessings!

Sue

  1. I do not believe I am either. If I could, I would prefer to ride horses. Horses can go fast, but not HARLEY fast. Plus, a quiet countryside with the movement of horseflesh between my thighs holds more appeal than a noisy highway with a rumbling loud bike. 🙂

  2. Yep, motorcycles aren’t my choice either, but I have a lot of friends who love them. Maybe the helmets cut some of the noise!

  3. Motorcycles I sure don’t like them they’re far to noisey. Love horse’s but would still prefer to walk and look at the wonderful scenery. Welcome back Sue?

  4. Noise seems to be a big factor with answers here and on my Facebook page!

Thank you, Trish, for the welcome back. I’m excited to have life settle down a little from our summer busyness. Hope you like the new look of my website/blog. How was your summer?

  5. Sue we are just getting into Spring here and all my native plants are coming out you would love the wildflowers . I will send you some pics. The new look is fabulous and Neil did awesome job of the sunset. Is the lake near your home?

  6. I love that you have spring when we have fall. During gray days you always cheer me up, Trish, with pictures of your spring flowers! The lake you asked about is right at our front “yard”. We have sand instead of lawn. The reflections on the lake add to the beauty of a sunset!

  7. LOL. I prefer to run. A bicycle would be a close second, though I did discover that rocks on a steep downhill work about as well as cones with a motorcycle!
