LEMNISCATE

Wild Word Friday!

I’m sure you’ve been trying to find a word like LEMNISCATE all your life.  Well maybe not, but it’s still an interesting word.

Take the numeral 8, tip it over to its side and you’ve created a LEMNISCATE.  LEMNISCATE is the name for a shape – two circles melded by a tiny waist.

The LEMNISCATE is also the mathematical sign for infinity.

My husband’s undergrad major was math. When I was suffering through Freshman Algebra (MA110), my husband would talk about the mathematical principles behind the problems I was trying solve until I would finally beg, “Don’t explain it to me! Just tell me what I have to memorize!”

Anyway, my math major husband tells me a very interesting thing about infinity. Infinity divided in half is still infinity. Infinity divided by 100 is still infinity. Every little piece of infinity is infinity. Infinity is forever and it cannot, by definition, ever be diminished.

What a great definition of God. And because I believe God is Love… What a joyous concept!

Blessings,

Sue
