34. Life Happens

I was having a great, motivated, write-every-day week. My husband was away on a fishing trip, and I had six hours of daylight between care-giving times for my dad-in-law. I was really going to speed into my second draft!

But sometimes life happens. My dad wound up in the hospital and my mother has dementia. Suddenly I was one of the primary caregivers for them as well as for my father-in-law. Four days and three sleepless nights later, I’m exhausted, but joyous that my dad is okay, and at the same time mourning my mother’s neediness.

We’re on our way to solutions, and God is reminding me that no amount of disappointment over lost writing time can take away the knowledge that I was there when my parents needed me. More importantly, God was there and there in a very big and very real way. And soon I’ll have time to write again (and probably appreciate it even more).

I will continue with the “Redux” portion of YOUR Novel as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and your prayers.

Blessings,
Sue

  1. I first saw “Life happens” as a bumper sticker. It’s so true, because we all have priorities to deal with. If we’re meant to write God will help us find the time to get the words out, even if it’s between the ordinary or extraordinary moments of our days. I’m glad to hear your crisis is settling down.

  2. Thank you, Carol. I stayed with my mother last night and she slept all the way through! That’s a miracle. We’re usually up every half hour to hour, which wears me out so quickly, and I don’t stay every night. I don’t know how my 84-year-old father kept up with her for the past year. Walking in another person’s shoes is good for the soul!

  3. Sue thinking of you and I hope this crisis with your loved ones settle’s down and you are able to catch up on the rest you need to be able to care for them again.Take care!
