Release Day!
I’m delighted to announce that today, Tuesday, May 28, 2013, all six of my Alaska novels have been released as Ebooks by Open Road Integrated Media!! I thought that you might like to hear how this came about.
Last August my husband mentioned that we really should look into my old contracts and see if we could get the Ebook rights assigned to us by the publishers of my Alaska books, Doubleday and HarperCollins. We weren’t all that motivated, thinking that it might take us a long time to jump through all the hoops to have those rights reassigned. Then the huge surprise!
We already owned the rights. The literary agent who represented my Alaska novels, Rhoda Weyr (now retired), had retained those rights – way back in the 1990s before Ebooks were “invented.” My husband set to work finding a company that would scan my novel MOTHER EARTH FATHER SKY in preparation for us to self-publish the novel in Ebook form. We found Golden Images LLC. Stan Drew and his people did a super job for us.
However, things changed completely when I received an email on November 7, 2012 from Maggie Lichota Crawford. Maggie was the Avon paperback editor for my first two Alaska books, MOTHER EARTH FATHER SKY and MY SISTER THE MOON. she wrote that she was now working at Open Road Integrated Media, a digital publisher in New York. She said that Open Road publishes many distinguished authors digitally, including James Joyce, Pearl S. Buck, Pat Conroy, William Styron, Anne Perry…. What? They want my novels, too?!? (Serious happy-dancing.)
The next few months were filled with happy activities like updating and submitting my biography, reviewing cover artwork, and posing for new author photos. (Thank you, Erin Johnson!) So here we are in May, with all six Alaska novels available from Open Road in Ebook format. What a dream come true!
This is my author page link at Open Road Integrated Media where you can catch connections to various Ebook publishers that carry my novels. If you own an Ebook reader, I hope you’ll consider a purchase!

So far as modern technology goes in the book department, I leave well enough alone. Nothing surpasses the experience of opening a book with it’s smells of promise and adventure <3
This series is so dear to my heart. I am so happy for the release to all the new generation of readers who will find it because of the modern method of reading. Always a fan of your stories. Love you. Permelia
Thank you, Nicole. I’m always surprised at how God arranges our lives!!

Congratulations, Sue! Kindle readers are lucky to have them now. After visiting Alaska for the first time last Fall, I love anything about that beautiful place. Can’t wait to dif in to each one. Again, congratulations!
Congratulations Sue! My autographed set is proudly displayed on my living room bookshelf. There is still something to be said for holding a “real” book but I have moved into the modern era and enjoy being able to always have a book with me via my Ipad. Will spread the word that your books are now available in this format!
Congratulations, Sue! I’m excited for you and excited for the new generation of readers that will get to enjoy your work!
Congratulations Sue. God’s timing is perfect in all things and it is His desire for you to use modern technology and get your work out there for all to read. You are so blessed. We are blessed to have you as a friend and colleague. Our graduating class from Pickford High School of 1968 was honored to have you a part of us. God bless you as you continue to live for Him.
You’ve hit on a point of discussion that comes up almost every time writers gather, Jackie. Most of us begin writing for the joy of it and as a type of artistic expression. When we get to the point of publication, most of us (including me!) are totally blindsided by the business aspect of it all. The really good news is that we have literary agents who help us with the business requirements and applications. Hooray for literary agents!! I give my undying gratitude to my agents overseas and the 3 US agents who have helped me so much: Rhoda Weyr, Jennie Dunham, and Rachelle Gardner!
Sue congratulations on the release of your awesome stories now on kindle. It truly was amazing journey for me when I read them few years ago & now they will come alive again through our amazing technology kindle & I Pad. How cool is that!
Lovin’ ye, Jackie!!
That means so much to me, Ann!
Thank you, Joyce!!
Congratulations, Sue and Neil! In my retirement(Ha Ha!) I want to reread all of your books. They were wonderful and will be better the second time around. God Bless!
Congratulations…I have your entire set in hard copy and have enjoyed reading them many times!
I never realized how complicated this was. I thought once you write a book you have the full rights to it and do whatever you want.
Creativity vs. Business…. it just does not match well in my mind.
Congratulations Sue and Neil, I am very happy for ye. love, Jackie
email change!!
Congratulations, Sue!!! I’m so glad you took the time to check out the legality to this. I am hoping doors keep opening for you!!!!! You are a true inspiration.
