August ’13 Free Book #2!
Count me as a fan of Michael K. Reynolds! In his novel IN GOLDEN SPLENDOR, Reynolds continues his Heirs of Ireland saga, but this novel can be read as a stand-alone book, too.
From the back cover: “In 1849, Irish immigrant Seamus Hanley is a lost soul . . . living alone in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. After witnessing a dealy stagecoach crash, he finds purpose in the scattered wreckage – a letter with a photograph of a beautiful woman named Ashlyn living in San Francisco at the height of the Gold Rush. Moved by her written plea for help, he sets out on an epic journey across the wild and picturesque American frontier…”
To qualify for our Wednesday, August 28 drawing, please answer this question:
If you would have lived in the 1840s and were in good health, do you think you would have joined the 1849 Gold Rush, or would you have been content to stay home? In other words, do you consider yourself a treasure seeker?
Blessings,
Sue
Me, too, Juliet!
I love new books
I would stay home with the children and send my husband.
if i had been living back then i would have been out there gold digging with my dad without a doubt and i would have loved every minute with him and doing what he dreamed of doing making his dreams come true panhandling for gold
Single or married with no kids, I’d like to think I’d (we’d) go. Married with a family, I’d stay home and send the men-folk.
I would have states home
So we have a variety of choices here! Some of you are a lot braver than I am! I’d probably stay home and keep the farm going. Or sort of going.
I love a good adventure Sue! I think I would have gone, not necessarily for the gold but for the excitement. My husband is a high adventure type guy and so are my two teenage boys. This family would have hit the trail!
I would have stayed home;not much for the unknown!
I would have been on my way to that gold!
I would have been too chicken to go. All those hardships and dangers would put me off. In addition, the supplies required to go and survive would have represented a major financial investment. I probably would have considered these expenses a big gamble. Guess chickens don’t get rich.
It sure would be tempting to go. My gggreat grandfather went and caught the fever, never made it back to Illinois. It would be so interesting to see what he went through.
What a great idea Jackie!! Send the man out to the goldfields. I’m a home-body, too!
I would be very content to stay at home 🙂 Maybe send the husband out to find me some treasure 🙂
