September 2021 FREE BOOK!

Our featured book this month is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen!

Written and illustrated by my long-time friend Dinny Falkenburg, GARDEN: A LOVE STORY, is filled with her drawings and beautiful and wise words. Dinny is known throughout the world for her expertise in training horses and dogs, and now also as an artist, horticulturist, and author. Dinny has always used her gifts to brighten the world, and this lovely hardcover book does indeed do that.

From the author’s preface: “This book was written en plein air during the summer of 2018, after I began sleeping–and more importantly, waking–in my garden. I wrote from dawn until my cozy bower became too warm in the late morning sun. In a thin Moleskine journal, I recorded the history of the garden and the ongoing lessons it offered. For this reason, there may be a blending of the past and the present. For in the garden, time is as flexible as reality itself. All flowers, dogs, and fairies are drawn from life. Thank you, dear reader, for your suspended beliefs. May you awaken in your own garden.”

This book made me cry, not because it is sad–it’s anything BUT sad– but because it’s so exquisite.

This month, we are giving away TWO of Dinny’s books. To have your name included in our September 8 drawing, just answer this question. Have you ever grown a garden? (Does it have fairies?)

Happy Reading!

Sue

  1. I’ve enjoyed gardens superficially for many years, but now I appreciate them more deeply. Can’t get enough day lilies, but I’m enjoying a list of others that keeps growing. No fairies, but plenty of inspiration!

  2. Yes and yes. My grandmother had such beautiful flowers. I still have some Hibiscus plants from her garden. I also have had come fairies in my yard and garden. Charming.

  3. I have always had a veggie garden, once I owned my own property I began planting berries and fruits. So far I only get to harvest the very first year of each crop. Once the birds, squirrels and chipmunks discover the bounty they leave nothing for me. This year was hazelnuts, they didn’t even get fully ripe. I have not noticed any fairies but if they are here they must be in cahoots or act as lookouts because I never see the culprits most of the time. Well, except for the catbirds and robins in the cherry trees. Their calls are so vibrant and distinctive it almost sounds like bragging! At least somebody gets to enjoy my efforts. I have the reluctant luxury of the grocery store.

  4. Thank you for these great comments. I love reading what you have to say about gardens! My apologies for taking so long to get back to you. We were a week without Internet AND telephone. That was interesting. All is back in order now. It’s the price we pay for living in a remote area, and it’s worth it!

  5. Thank you so much for the response, Sue!
I would love to buy a copy. Please let me know how to proceed. 🙂
