April 2024 FREE BOOKS!

This month some lucky reader will win two books, both by award winning Michigan author, Terri Martin!

The first book is THE HOME WIND, an historical novel for middle readers (ages 9 and up), which is set in an 1870s logging camp in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. From the back cover: “While his mother works as a cook in a logging camp, Jamie is run ragged as chore boy. The grinding dreariness fades when Jamie meets a Native American boy, Gray Feather, who carries a burden of his own.”

The second book, MOOSE WILLOW, is a perfect read for cozy mystery fans. Also set in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, this novel is written for an adult audience and does a great job of combining both humor and mystery in a story that begins at choir practice at the Moose Willow Methodist Church. First sentence–“She just showed up one night and said, ‘Hi, I’m Derry. I’d like to sing in the choir.'”

To have your name included in our Wednesday, May 1 drawing, just answer this question. Have you ever sung in a choir? (And yes, I have.)

Happy Reading!

  1. Yes, I was in a choir in st. Lawrence grade school many moons ago and also in St Francis Church both in Detroit.

  2. Yes! I sung in the choir in high school for multiple years. We had so much fun.

  3. Yep I was in choir. Is it possible to get kicked out of choir? If so, that could explain why I don’t have any memory of leaving this time in my life. I do remember singing the balm of Gilead, and wondering who is going to set the bomb off. I suppose that’ll get me kicked off of Facebook, oh well.

  4. I had a piano and held my own summer church camp week at my farm when i was 9 or 10. We sang hymns and i read verses from the Bible. During recess, one of the kids broke my glasses while wrestling outside. Then my brother stole our small change jar for our end of camp party. That ended my church camp. I played piano a little and wanted lessons. I never thought I had a voice for singing so never joined a choir.

  5. I never sang in a choir, except for school events. I wish I had a talent for singing, but I don’t!

  6. Not since 5th grade, but I can still remember the mom in the audience who had the nicest posture I’ve ever seen. She was radiant, and I’ve strived to look.like her ever since. Btw Sue, I love your books!
