Puppy Love/ Golden Retriever!

I haven’t yet met a Golden Retriever that I didn’t love. Yes, I know that they can be rambunctious and that one wag of the tail can sweep everything off the coffee table, but what joyous, smart, and happy dogs they are!

Developed historically to be used in hunting game birds, Goldens have “soft mouths” that allow them to retrieve downed birds without damaging them. They have double coats with outer hairs that shed the water, which is good, because Goldens never seem to miss an opportunity to romp in a lake, stream, or puddle.

Tell us about the Golden Retrievers in your life!

Blessings!

  2. We’ve always had large dogs, but they’ve always been German shepherds, rotties, and even a Swiss Mountain dog. We’ve never had a retriever; well, that’s not until lately!! Our Harley found his way into a pre-school classroom on Valentine’s Day this year; he ended up in our local shelter. We actually had NO inclination to have a THIRD dog, but one day we were driving around town and all of a sudden a very strong demand entered my head to ‘go to the shelter’. I looked at my husband, and without thinking blurted out, “We need to go to the shelter!!” We immediately turned around. . .when we arrived at the shelter, Harley Charlie Valentine was waiting for us!!! He is pure joy. . .smart, furry, soft, funny, and such a good friend to our rottie (Hemi) and our Swissie Mix (Jackie). They do have a mind of their own, though, don’t they. . .and yes, we have found out just how strong their tails are!!!

  3. My 10-year-old Golden Retriever Jack has been my writing buddy and partner since I started writing. He lays at my feet as I work every day and snuggles on my lap whenever I sit down. I know he’s 85 pounds and certainly not a lap dog but I love him. Best dog I’ve ever had.
