Feb. ’11 Free Books!

Let’s celebrate the Valentine month with a couple of love stories.  We’ve given away one of these books previously, but I love it so much that  we’re giving away another copy.

That book is the awesome, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS by Sara Gruen.  It’s a beautiful understated love story and a colorful visit to a depression-era circus.  The New York Times Book Review says, “With a showman’s expert timing [Gruen] saves a terrific revelation for the final pages, transforming a glimpse of America into an enchanting escapist fairy tale.”

Our give-away edition is a new trade paperback.

Add to that, Tracie Peterson’s A DREAM TO CALL MY OWN, another lovely romance.  From the back cover, “Lacy Gallatin is a woman with a mission: to find her father’s killer…. Enter Dave Shepard, Deputy sheriff for Gallatin Crossing, Montana….”

Our give-away bookclub edition is a new largeprint hardcover.

This month, I’m doing something a little different.  We will draw only one name, and the winner will have his or her choice of these two books.

To qualify for the drawing, please let us know which Valentine fantasy gift you would choose to receive:

1.  A large box of chocolates.  Every time you eat a candy you lose a pound.

2.  A DVD that actually transports you and your favorite person to a different exotic location each week for a (paid-for) meal at a 5-star restaurant.  While you’re there, you are both fluent in the local language.

3.  A wristwatch that allows you to deduct a year from your age (and the age of your favorite person) every six months.

Which would you choose?

Happy Valentine’s Month!

Blessings, Sue

  1. Hi Sue,

I had heard that Water for Elephants is a wonderful story.

Your suggestions of Valentine fantasy gifts are very interesting. For me it is a hard choice between number 2 and number 3. Being able to deduct from one’s age would be so nice, but .. then again I would so much love the time with my favourite person – who, of course, is my beloved husband – in different exotic places each week. That would be so fun, wouldn’t it? And he doesn’t seem to notice that I am getting older, anyway, so … I would have to choose #2. Even though we would both get younger (if choosing #3), it is rather nice to “grow old along with me” because there is always the continued adventure together that comes naturally. (have I convinced myself yet?) 🙂

  2. I have to admit #1 was very tempting and #3 sounds interesting, but I would have to pick #2 without a doubt!!! How exciting that would be………..

  3. Sue i like the sound of 2 going to exotic place’s that I could handle very well,so long as I had enough books and nice company to share it with.Plus the freedom of open space and beautiful sunsets and starry nights to enjoy.

  4. Hi Sue,
I would have to go along with number two also. It sounds very
    exciting, also very romantic.

  5. Most certainly #2. The idea of unforgettable moments and memories is too great to resist. Sharing wonderful journeys with someone you care for is a treasure all it’s own, and imagine the stories to share.

  6. I would choose 2 also. Dave and I have had a date night every Saturday for years. We go out to eat every Saturday night. To be able to go to a different EXOTIC location and eat at a five star restaurant would be a dream come true for us. So much fun 🙂

  7. Hard choice, Sue. #1 wouldn’t work for me because if I had a box of chocolates I’d disappear because I would eat them all at once! #3. doesn’t appeal quite as much because we are enjoying the age we are and have grandchildren to love. Too good to want to change that. So, 2. is it for me, partially because the real fantasy is that Bill would travel with me and enjoy elegant dining, not to mention a foreign language.

Whether I won a book or not, the enjoyment your options gave me was a nice distraction on a -15 degree morning! Thanks, Sue.

  8. @ Pat and Yooper Lorin, So we have 2 chocolate lovers ! (Well, 3, including Ginny – I’m laughing at the disappearance problem!).

@ Kandy, Neil and I are total believers in date nights!

@ Ginny, yes I’m ready for that warm-up the weather man has been talking about.

  9. It’s such a hard choice. I think that I would choose number 1. Chocolate sometimes is a girl’s best friend, so losing weight instead of gaining weight would be awesome. Only if it didn’t change the taste! LOL!

Thank you for posting this. It was fun to read the choices.

    🙂
    Sarah

  10. Sue,
It would be #2 for me also. The great food would be a plus but being able to speak the differant languages would be awesome. Even though I have been married to a wonderfull German women for 32 years I do not speak her language. Thanks for posting this. It was fun reading.

  11. nr. 1: very tempting but atm I try to stay off chocolate and sugar related things completely, I have a mental block towards that.

nr. 2: to visit locations that I have not seen and explored sounds very nice, but I feel I have travelled a lot and am not to bad with languages anyway

nr. 3: I go for that, especially if my grey hairs would vanish ! 🙂

  12. I think I would choose #1 so that I could lose the weight as I wanted to. (Of course, you didn’t say if if would stay off!) I am not very adventuresome so #2 would be a challenge for me and I am content with my age so #3 wouldn’t be high on the list.
Thanks for being so creative with the contest!

  13. #1 is good, but not so much “into” chocolate. #2 yes, but all those meals…and all the weight gain! #3 yes…want to be around for as long as possible to enjoy our grandchilden!

  14. I love the language part of #2, Mary, but like Mary and Sharon a part of me would love to be able to turn the clock back. Maybe just about 10 to 15 years. No more than that. I wouldn’t want to be 20 again!
